To anyone who has ever lost a best furry friend, Nicole Grimes is about to sound like the luckiest lady alive.
Like many little girls, Nicole dreamed of getting a dog to call her own. When she was 10, her grandma surprised her with a sweet little puppy, a Pomeranian-poodle crossbreed.
“My mom and her [nana] picked me up from school one day and I saw the puppy sitting on my nanas lap in the car with a pretty pink bow in her hair,” Nicole wrote in a Facebook post.
Instantly smitten, Nicole named her new bestie Chloe. She planned on keeping the puppy forever, until something unexpected happened.
“My dad got a job where we couldn’t have a dog so I had to give her up. It was so hard,” she explained.
The two had been inseparable for four years before they were forced to go their separate ways. Her family released Chloe to the Washington Humane Society, and then they never knew what happened to their beloved pup thereafter.
That was until 7 years later when an absolute miracle, an act of sheer fate, unfolded.
All these years later, Nicole had started a family of her own and was living in Pennsylvania when she accidentally noticed a post about a dog named Chloe who needed a new home.
It was a Facebook post by a friend who needed to rehome their elderly dog that caught her eye.
The dog looked just like an older version of the Chloe from Nicole’s childhood – and she even shared the same name.
A part of Nicole wanted to believe it was the same dog, but how could something so incredible occur outside of a Hollywood film?
“On a whim I said I’d take her in! I just had this feeling…” Nicole writes.
Nicole decided to adopt the dog without second thought – if nothing else, it was a sign that she was meant to give the elderly dog a soft place to land, a loving furever home.
After meeting the dog in person and taking her into her home, she started to truly believe that this was in fact the very same dog she had been forced to separate from as a child.
“When we got her, right away she just fit right in. There was just something about her!! As the day went on, different things she did/how she acted was EXACTLY what my old Chloe did.”
“Last night I was holding her and just cried and cried because that dog was hugging me back and I just held her close to my heart. I just knew in my heart this was my Chloe.”
The feeling was so strong that Nicole decided to do some digging to connect the dots – where had Chloe really come from, what was her story?
Nicole reached out to the Facebook friend she’d adopted Chloe from to see where she had gotten Chloe from. The friend told her that she’d adopted Chloe from an elderly woman who passed away two years prior.
“[The FB friend] said she spoke to the elderly owner’s nephew who said he took her years ago to the Washington humane society to adopt a dog who was already named Chloe…”
What were the odds? But Nicole wanted to be 100% certain, and luckily her family had the dog chipped all those years back. So, the next step was to get the chip number and then have Chloe’s chip scanned to see if it was a match.
Nicole’s mom phoned the Humane Society where the family had her microchipped seven years back to get the exact number on the chip. Then Nicole made an appointment with the vet to have Chloe’s chip scanned.
One can only imagine the anticipation they must have felt waiting for that appointment!
When Nicole took her to the vet to have the chip scanned, it came back as an exact match.
Nicole believes it’s a sign from her nana, who gifted her the dog wearing a little pink bow all those years ago.
“My mom has prayed lately for a sign from my nana and we know this is it,” she shared. “I am so happy, excited, blessed to have this beloved dog back and to get to love her for the remainder of her life.”
“I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d ever see this dog again but here she is.”
Just goes to show, miracles do happen!
