Byron Taylor suffered an intense bought of depression after breaking off with his girlfriend. With judgement colored by pain and booze, he fashioned a noose and went downstairs to write a final letter to his family, fully intending to end his life, writes justsomething
Upon returning to his bedroom, he found the rope between the teeth of his typically docile dog. Thinking the pooch just wanted to play, Taylor attempted to procure the noose.
“I said, ‘Give it here’ and he started growling at me.’” Then, “He tore up the noose. He never growls, but each time I tried to take it off him, he would snarl.”
Byron believes that Geo, his Rare-Welsh Bull Mastiff, knew of his intentions and saved his life.
“They have a sixth sense about this kind of thing. He knew something was up… I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for him.”
“Geo is an amazing dog,” he says, and we agree. His stunning act of intuition granted Byron Taylor a new lease on life. This young man is using his second chance to give back to his community. He works as an ambulance dispatcher and recently participated in a fundraising walk for Teckles Animal Sanctuary.
Sadly, it is now Taylor’s turn to be the light in his best friend’s darkest days. Veterinarians found a malicious tumor in Geo’s head which is quickly spreading cancer throughout his body. Taylor must soon decide whether to end the suffering of the dog who saved him from his.
“The vet is happy for him to carry on as long as he is happy and playing, but it is only going to be a matter of weeks. We’re going day by day. It’s a daily struggle with the decision to put him down.”
