Xena the Chihuahua also had to have her leg amputated due to injuries from the accident. She gave birth at the same time.
Xena lived up to her name as a female warrior.
The Chihuahua ended up at the Fuzz Ball Animal Rescue in Hermiston, Oregon, after being hit by a car while in labor.
They took the dog to the Oregon Trail Veterinary Clinic to have her leg amputated due to injuries from the accident.
Xena also had to have an emergency caesarean section because her baby was too big for a natural birth.
What happened after the birth?
On Wednesday, rescuers shared the happy ending to this harrowing story. The Chihuahua mother survived her operations, as did her healthy baby boy.
«It’s so wonderful to see the two of them doing amazing things! It’s a hell of a miracle. This mom is a warrior, just like her baby,” the rescue posted on Facebook. “To have survived being on the streets, run over, in labor with a puppy too big to go out, then a c-section and leg amputation in shock! These are small miracles!
